Phantoms drop two to Knights

Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - The Delaware County Community College baseball team looked to open its home slate in victorious fashion, but Central Penn College had other ideas as the Knights took two from the Phantoms in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The first game of the day saw Central Penn register a 32-1 victory before closing out the sweep with an 18-1 win.

The young DCCC squad had their hands full with the Knights – the defending Eastern States Athletic Conference champions.

Central Penn's experience, especially on the mound, proved to be a difference maker as the Phantoms (0-4) managed only seven hits over the 12 innings of baseball played on the day.

The Knights (4-4) used seven different pitchers over the course of the afternoon who combined to register 21 strikeouts as they quieted the DCCC bats.

Benjamin Beasley, Eric Engesser, and Aaron Gumminger tallied hits in the opener, while    Cole DeRosa earned two walks. Sean Duffy scored the lone run of the contest in the second.

DeRosa found his way on base again later in the day as he notched two hits (including a triple), and scored the lone run of Game 2. Engesser and Duffy accounted for the remaining hits, with Duffy delivering the lone RBI.

Cidrick Navas and Michael Jenkins took the losses on the mound in Game 1 and Game 2, respectively.

The Phantoms get right back into action Sunday as they travel to Delaware Technical Community College for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
