Delaware County Falls on the Road to Salem

Carneys Point, N.J. - The Delaware County Community College baseball team fell to host Salem Community College, 21-3, Tuesday afternoon.

Benjamin Beasley led off the game with a single for the Phantoms (0-2), but hits would be hard to come by throughout the rest of the afternoon.

A 10-run first inning by the Mighty Oaks proved too difficult to overcome.

The Phantoms were able to battle back with three runs in the fifth. Gabe Palandro got things started with a leadoff walk followed by a single by Beasley and a triple to right by Cole DeRosa.

DCCC managed just four hits over the course of the contest as the Mighty Oaks' pitchers combined to strike out 14.

Beasley had two hits on the day. DeRosa's triple and a double by Eric Engesser accounted for the remaining hits.

Daniel Guinan took the loss for the Phantoms in his first appearance of the season.

Ryan Silnik pitched four shutout innings with eight strikeouts to earn the win for Salem (6-5).

Next up for the Phantoms is the home opener on Saturday against Central Penn College.

The Knights pose an early-season non-conference challenge as they were the Eastern States Athletic Conference champions last season. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for
