Phantoms Fall to the Mechanics at Home 5-1
Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - The Delaware County Community College baseball team aimed to win its second straight contest but visiting Williamson College of the Trades had other ideas as the Mechanics registered a 5-1 rain-shortened victory Wednesday afternoon.
Williamson (6-3) scored two runs on two hits in the first to move out to the early lead.
The Phantoms (1-9) looked to answer right back as Benjamin Beasley led off the bottom of the first with a single but Mechanics pitcher Ryan Nearey would limit the Delaware County lineup to just one more single over the rest of the contest.
The Mechanics added three more runs in the top of the fifth before Izaah Perocier sent a two-out single into left field in the bottom of the frame and came around to score.
Delaware County would get no closer however as Nearey kept the Phantoms' bats quiet and rainy conditions shortened the game to six innings, while also canceling the nightcap.
Hunter Whitten allowed just two earned runs in the loss.
The game saw Phantoms' head coach Ryan Hunter go up against Williamson's Doug Thompson whom he coached under last season.
Delaware County will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd, with a single game against fellow NJCAA Region XIX member Camden County College starting at 3:30 p.m.The host Cougars have won their last six games.
