Delaware County Swept by Mercer County in Doubleheader
Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - The season continued for Delaware County Community College Sunday afternoon as the Phantoms dropped two to visiting Mercer County Community College.
Residing at the top of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX standings among Division II institutions, the Vikings made it a long day for the hosts as they registered victories of 45-0 (Game 1) and 20-0 (Game 2).
Benjamin Beasley and Hunter Whitten accounted for the only two hits of Game 1 for the Phantoms (1-13).
The Vikings (24-12) rank 18th in batting average (.330) among all NJCAA D-II schools and that offense was on full display on Sunday as Mercer tallied 38 hits in the opener.
Michael Casson took the loss on the mound.
The second game saw a similar story as Vikings' pitchers Ryan Mignogna and Vincent Mazzilli combined to strike out 13 to keep DCCC's bats silent.
Steven Orfanelli tallied the lone Phantoms' hit in Game 2 which was also Orfanelli's first hit of his career.
Michael Jenkins took the loss in Game 2.
The Phantoms get right back into action on Tuesday when they head to Camden County College for a twin bill against the Cougars beginning at 1 p.m.
