Phantoms Offense Scores a Season High but Falls Short at Home
Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - The Delaware County Community College baseball team scored a season-high 12 runs but it was not enough as visiting Salem Community College registered a 25-12 victory Monday afternoon.
Eight of the nine players in the DCCC starting lineup crossed the plate at least once in the season-high scoring output.
Despite trailing 15-0 after four, the Phantoms (1-23) would not quit as they responded with two runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth, before breaking through for nine runs in the sixth.
The nine runs in the sixth inning also represented a season-high total in terms of runs produced in a single inning.
Gabe Palandro went 3-for-5 with two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Palandro has been a steady presence in the lineup as he leads the squad in hits, walks, and plate appearances. He is the only Phantom to play every game this season.
First baseman Eric Engesser went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Cidrick Navas took the loss on the mound but registered his second double of the season at the plate. Navas registered an RBI and scored twice.
Steven Orfanelli, Michael Casson and MIchael Jenkins also accounted for RBIs in the contest.
Winning pitcher John McAllister struck out eight Phantoms in five innings of work.
The game saw the two squads match up for the second time this season as visiting Salem won the initial contest, 21-3, on March 12. The Mighty Oaks (23-20) are currently riding a 12-game win streak.
DCCC finishes up its April slate with a doubleheader against fellow Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference member Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday. First pitch against the Cougars is scheduled for 1 p.m.
