Phantoms Start Back Strong to Beat Luzerne 81-44

Chester, PA—The Delaware County Community College Men's Basketball team barreled out of the post-break gate to a dominating 81-44 home win over Luzerne County Community College.

"We executed on the defensive end, which I believe contributed to our solid offensive effort," said DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders, pointing to the team's 17 steals, including four from point guard Darrius Best.

Best also contributed eight assists and 10 points. "He controlled the game effectively on the offensive end," Saunders said. "His ability to organize us was instrumental."

New Phantom Nasir Kelly showed great efficiency on offense, shooting 50 percent from the field and 55 percent from the perimeter, according to Coach Saunders. "His performance adds another layer to our offensive versatility," he said.

Kelvin Crawford also had a standout effort in his first game with the team, grabbing seven total rebounds, with four on the offensive glass. "His contribution in that area is a positive sign for our team," said Saunders.

With the win, the Phantoms move to 5-6 in conference play and 6-10 overall. "There's still a lot of basketball to play in the second half of the season, but I'm hopeful that we can use this momentum to propel us forward," Saunders said. "Our next game against a tough Camden team will be a big test, but I believe we're moving in the right direction."

The Phantoms host Camden County College at FiDonce Gym (215 E 21st St, Chester) on Jan 14 at 7pm.
