Phantoms Take the Court for Youth Hoops Clinic
Glenolden, PA—Delaware County Community College men's basketball players and coaches suited up with Glenolden Youth Club (GYC) on January 11 to conduct a skills clinic for girls and boys ages 10-13 in the Delco community. Six student-athletes along with the Phantoms' coaching staff joined GYC at Glenolden Elementary School to offer instruction, information, and inspiration to two dozen young hoopers.
The Phantoms continue to team up with GYC for youth basketball clinics, appreciating opportunities to assist the local youth sports organization and serve young athletes. "Our program is able to give back by sharing our knowledge and teaching the fundamental principles of the game of basketball," said Dwayne Saunders, men's basketball head coach and DCCC athletic director. "Clinics allow us to educate future athletes on what youth basketball looks like as they progress through their athletic development and what it entails at higher levels of competition."
"The clinic served as a fun, engaging platform for our players to connect with the youth while collaborating with a strong and growing organization like Glenolden Youth Club," he said. "We seek to strengthen the overall level of competition within their program while reinforcing our commitment to community engagement and youth development."
GYC President Marcus Whiteside thanked the Phantoms for "show[ing] our youth players some next-level techniques and ball skills [and helping] our players develop their game in the right way."
"We were able to focus on individual skills as well as teamwork … and we saw vast improvements throughout the clinic," Whiteside said, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership.
